Linda Likes: Winter!

Maybe the title of my blog isn’t very true this time, because I am not made for the winter and its cold days, but I must say the winter fashion in SL is awesome at the moment, and I just can’t stop shopping and mixing and matching everything together.

When it comes to fashion, winter is a word that few like to hear, and many choose to deny its presence. The winter season can be as enjoyable as the summer season when it comes to sporting the latest fashion trends. Don’t let winter make you dull, keep looking for clothes and outfit combinations that will maintain your fresh look. Collect a variety of winter boots, jackets with different cuts and linings, and get some bags that will go with your winter look to keep up your image.

Winter clothes can never be complete without the mention of jackets and winter coats. Women’s winter jackets are designed to insulate you from the biting cold outside. Available in different lengths, you can play around with different styles and find one that can best suit all your different looks. If you have a fur in your wardrobe, you are lucky, because this season designers have returned fur to fashion. Furs always look perfect, and they are really chic on every woman.

Also, winter caps are essential winter wear. You must have one of them for keeping yourself cozy and warm during the winter. Usually people avoid wearing winter caps, as they feel it makes one look goofy and funny. Well, it may not be the same always, as you can look stylish by choosing the right one.

On Sunday, October 11, starting at 11 am SL time there will be a fabulous MAKEOVER MAGIC fashion show on the American Cancer Society Island. Three cancer survivors and a caregiver, along with their fashion mentors, will display their new looks – shapes, skins, hair, clothing, AO’s, and accessories. Please come and join us in this celebration of courage and caring!

MAKEOVER MAGIC is organized by volunteers from the American Cancer Society in Second Life and SL’s Cancer Survivors Group and Caregivers Group, led by Cinders Vale. It is the Second Life equivalent of a real-life American Cancer Society program, ‘Look Good…Feel Better’ – a nationwide, public service program in the USA to help cancer survivors to look good, improve their self-esteem, and manage their treatment and recovery with greater confidence. This year, 2009, is the 20^th anniversary of LGFB which is now available in 19 countries around the globe … and now, also, in Second Life.

Cinders explains: ‘We have adapted the ACS program to fit our virtual world. A virtual makeover will include everything from new shapes, skins, hair, clothing, AO’s, accessories. Each participant will be assisted by two mentors, to find that new look that will be amazing.’

This year Makeover Magic has been opened up also to cancer caregivers. ‘Any cancer survivor will tell you just how important their caregivers are. Cancer caregivers deserve some pampering too’ says Cinders.

Participants

The three cancer survivors selected for this program are RebelMum Slade, Dwen Dooley, and BluesSweet Tomorrow, who will be modeling their new finery alongside caregiver Darcie55 Kraus.

Their fashion mentors are: Fire914 Flaman, Jacksonn Munro, Tiffany Dragonash, Sharron Schuman, Millie Gears, Helena Geiger, Arlene Muircastle, Cody Bolero, Aryon Dagger, and Boot Janus.

Italia Velota, who is responsible for the mentors and designers, says: ‘I would especially like to thank all of the designers who agreed to donate their clothing, shoes, skins, shapes and accessories for their generous support’.

When people ask me what is your favorite fashion style on Second Life, I always say it depends on my feeling of that day. I am not a girl that likes to wear one style, but most of the time it will be more casual then formal. Not that I dont like formal, but it isn’t really me when I am wearing it all day long.

The thing I like the most about fashion and all those fantastic fashion designers here at SL is that you can mix and match outfits until you drop down to the floor. I always think it is a challenge to make every outfit really stand out and not look the same as everybody else who has that outfit in SL. That is why I mix and match things from different designers. You should experiment, too, and have some fun!

Makeover Magic

SL Cancer Survivors and SL Cancer Caregivers are working together with the FACES Creative Team and a host of talented designers, who have kindly agreed to donate items, to sponsor makeovers for a group of selected survivors and caregivers. The results will be shown at a fashion show on the American Cancer Society island at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 7 – which is National Cancer Survivors Day.

Last year’s fashion show was held on November 2 to coincide with the official unveiling of the makeover of the American Cancer Society sim. Five cancer survivors modeled their new outfits alongside their fashion mentors. The outfits were kindly donated by leading hair, clothing, skin, shape, shoe and jewelry designers in SL.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

For 2009, members of the Caregivers group have also been included. Through these makeovers, our goal is to honor and pamper inworld cancer survivors and caregivers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Fashion Show will be hosted by FACES at ACS Island.and will feature the new looks of the chosen participants walking the runway with their model/mentors, showing off designs donated from this program’s supporters. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

‘Makeover Magic’ is the Second Life equivalent of a real life program, ‘Look Good…Feel Better’ – a free, community-based service in the USA that helps cancer survivors to restore their appearance and self-image during treatment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ‘Look Good…Feel Better’ program in real life was founded and developed in 1989 by the Personal Care Products Council, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA).

National Cancer Survivors Day is the world’s largest cancer survivor event and is held annually in hundreds of communities throughout the world on the first Sunday in June. It is a symbolic event to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. Please join us in support and celebration at this unique event!
